Summer

This summer, I am offering art classes as a fundraiser to help pay for our Girl Scout trip to the NASA Space Center and Galveston Island. Fees will help pay for materials, all extra will be put in our Girl Scout Fund.

Location: my home

Ages 5-8: Wednesdays from 10-11 a.m.
Ages 9-12: Wednesdays from 11a.m. to 12 p.m.
Ages 13+: Wednesdays from 1-2pm

All groups will learn about a different artist each week and focus on art projects relating to that artist. We will play and get messy, so please have them wear appropriate clothes.

It is summer and this is supposed to be fun, but if the kids in ages 9+ and Teens wish, I will give them assignments to work on during the week to help cement the skills we work on in each session. For this they will need a sketchbook and pencils. I will provide materials for class sessions; any materials desired for home use will need to be provided by the family.

June for the teens will focus mainly on drawing skills while July will focus on use of color and various painting techniques.

I am also willing to offer classes in Adobe programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign for $30/month. If desired, feel free to email me at vansoolen at hotmail dot com.

My Qualifications:

* I have a degree in Illustration, and you can view my portfolio here.

* I taught summer art to the Upward Bound teenagers (10-12th grade) for two summers, and have invitations from their staff to come back.

* I volunteer with Girl Scouts in both the Daisy troops (Kindergarten and first grade) and co-lead a Cadette troop (6th-8th grade). I know how to make things fun, engaging, and interesting for kids.

* I get bored just as easily as kids do, and I love things that make me giggle. Therefore I try to incorporate that in my lessons and learning experiences, so kids are engaged, interested, and not resenting their parents for making them take the class.
